PORTSMOUTH, New Hampshire (WMUR) — A woman from Portsmouth was shocked when she returned home after a flight from Europe and found that the gifts she had packed in her luggage were gone, replaced by other items that weren’t hers.

“I opened the third bag which I had all the gifts in and things I bought for myself as well, and it was replaced with dog food, an old T-shirt, a shaving cream bottle,” Gina Sheldon said.

Sheldon had spent 11 days in Italy and stopped in Paris for a few days for business on her way home. She guesses the switch happened in the baggage area at Charles DeGaulle Airport in France.

“There was a leather jacket I had purchased for my 16-year-old,” Sheldon said. I had bought these really cute leather wristlet band purses that I had bought to give to various family and friends.”

She said the missing items totaled more than $3,000, and said she has a suspicion about the types of items that ended up in her luggage instead.

“I think the reason they did that is because when it goes through the scan and it continued on its journey, it looks like a real luggage product.”

Sheldon booked her flight through Delta Airlines, but it was operated by Air France.

In a statement, Delta Airlines told WMUR: “We apologize for this customer’s experience following Air France flight 334. We have affirmatively connected with our partners at Air France and the customer to find a resolution.”
