Limekiln State Park reopens for day use; California State Parks
BIG SUR, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Limekiln State Park reopens to the public for day use, announced California State Parks on Monday.
State Parks said that the park has been closed due to safety concerns since the Paul's Slide landslide happened on January 14, 2023. State Parks also mentioned that some of the trails had been damaged and beach access limited.
The Pitkins Curve Trail and ocean view overlook are also open to the public, according to State Parks. They said that Hare Creek and Falls Trail will remain closed, and that drivers can only enter Limekiln State Park from the south (Cambria/San Simeon) via Highway 1.
According to State Parks, Highway 1 is closed about 4.4 miles north of the park and will remain closed due to an additional landslide that they are calling Regents Slide. State Parks said they have no estimated date for reopening that stretch of highway.
The park's hours are from 8 a.m. until sunset daily, and it is $10 per vehicle (cash only). There are a number of discounts available, and park passes can be purchased online at the pass sales locations webpage or by visiting the Monterey District office at 2211 Garden Road in Monterey.
