Michigan Democrats are lining up to replace Republican Rep. John James in his battleground district

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Republicans say the Democrat running to replace GOP Rep. John James had a “disgusting record” as a prosecutor that voters will reject for a third time. The Democrat, Carl Marlinga, will again seek a House seat in Michigan’s 10th District after losing by half a percentage point to James last year. National Democrats are targeting the seat in 2024 following sweeping wins in the state in 2022, except in the 10th District. Before the rematch, Marlinga must win a likely crowded Democratic primary. James has long been seen as a rising star in the GOP but has struggled to succeed in a state that has increasingly trended Democrat.
