Clarification: Rapid Fire Triggers story

In a story published August 20, 2023, The Associated Press reported on a court battle over the legality of devices that cause semiautomatic rifles to fire as fast as machine guns. The story should have made clear that a U.S. regulation defining machine guns as weapons capable of firing multiple shots with a “single pull” of a trigger was authored by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and is being challenged in court as inconsistent with a definition of machine guns passed by Congress.
