Caltrans crews to replace damaged retaining wall to strengthen a portion of Highway 1 along the Big Sur coast

BIG SUR, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Caltrans is preparing to replace a damaged retaining wall along the Big Sur Coast.

This will happen about .75 miles north of Fernwood near where Caltrans recently removed a logjam from the Big Sur River.

Large rocks will be delivered to the site after several concrete blocks armoring the highway were loosened after recent rain and water flowing from the river.

Caltrans said the work shouldn't result in much of a traffic issue for people traveling through the area.

Engineering, environmental, hydrological assessments are currently underway.
