Seacliff State Beach closure extended to Friday as people visit surrounding areas
APTOS, Calif. (KION-TV)- California State Parks announced the closure of Seacliff State Beach has been extended to Friday, Jan. 5.
Clean up continues at the state beach and Rio Del Mar where debris lines much of the shore. Some portions of the beach in Rio Del Mar remain open with people looking to catch a glimpse of the debris left behind.
Lynn Hahn who lives in San Jose was surprised to see so many people going to the beach.
“I didn't really expect to be able to come down here at all, but getting down here and seeing so many people," Hahn said. "So hopefully, it'll be back to normal. It's gonna take a long time, I'm sure," Hahn said.
Nearby businesses say it's been steady, but still a bit slower since the storms. One businesses, Pixie Deli and Good Eats did have to close for one day during the storm. However, they’re now back welcoming people visiting the open portion of the beach.
“We're getting a lot of calls people asking if they've cleared the roads and everything," Pixie Deli and Good Eats employee Danielle Batezell said. "We had a lot of people here for New Year's and everything, so it's slightly slower."
In terms of the areas of the state beach remaining closed through Friday, it includes the campground area and parking, lower day-use parking lot, facilities and pedestrian walkway.
Additionally, the platform parking lot and facilities in Rio Del Mar will remain closed as well.
