Serbia and Kosovo leaders set for talks on the sidelines of this week’s EU summit as tensions simmer

BRUSSELS (AP) — The leaders of Serbia and Kosovo have been invited to meet with top European Union officials to try to breathe life into talks aimed at normalizing their relations. The meetings would take place on the sidelines of an EU summit starting Thursday in Brussels. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Albin Kurti are not expected to meet face to face. A spokesman for EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell says the aim is to push forward with new “proposals and ideas” to help them implement an agreement they reached in February. Tensions between them are high. About 30 Serb gunmen crossed into northern Kosovo on Sept. 24, killing a police officer and sparking a major gunbattle.
