WARSAW, Poland (AP) — The leaders of opposition parties that collectively won the most votes in Poland’s recent election say Donald Tusk is their candidate to be prime minister. Tusk is a former prime minister and former president of the European Council. Their announcement came before President Andrzej Duda opened two days of postelection consultations with the heads of parties that won seats in the new parliament. Duda is required to tap a candidate for prime minister but has not said who it would be. Tuesday’s developments are important steps on the path to a new government. It remained unclear when a new government can take over in the Central European nation of 38 million people.
