PLEASANTVILLE, New Jersey (KYW) — A Pleasantville homeowner received a new $20,000 roof for free Monday as part of a national program to help military veterans.

The Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project and the Habitat for Humanity of South Central New Jersey selected David Brock, a U.S. Navy veteran, to receive a new roof.

“It’s just a treat,” Brock said. “It’s a true blessing, and I’m very, very grateful.”

Brock said without the donation, he wouldn’t have been able to afford a new roof.

“It’s sweet music to my ears!” Brock said, as the sounds of nail guns and hammers echoed throughout his house. “Sitting inside the house, listening to the drums, it sounds great!”

He’s one of nearly 500 service members who’ve received a new roof as part of Owens Corning’s program, which provided the roofing materials.

South Jersey-based Home Genius Exteriors donated the labor.

“This is just a really, really small price to pay for us, for the ultimate sacrifice that our veterans make to protect our freedom,” Kyle O’Connell, the Home Genius Exteriors’ sales manager, said.
