8 officers involved in Jayland Walker’s shooting death are back on active duty, officials say

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Officials say eight Ohio police officers who fired scores of shots that killed Jayland Walker after a car and foot chase last year are back on active duty. Akron Capt. Michael Miller cited a state investigation and an Ohio grand jury’s decision against indicting any officers in the 25-year-old Black man’s June 2022 death. Miller said the department’s internal probe is expected to be released at the end of November. Police say officers tried to pull over Walker’s car for minor equipment violations and that he fired a shot, later jumped from the car and ran, then reached for his waistband.
