LA County detective hit, killed while helping pedestrian

LOS ANGELES (KION) A detective was hit by a vehicle and killed while she was helping a pedestrian who had fallen in a cross walk, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Detective Amber Leist worked at the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station and was a 12 year veteran at the Sheriff's Department.

Officials said she was hit near the intersection of Riverside Drive and Whitsett Avenue after she helped the pedestrian to safety.

Leist leaves behind a family and two sons, one of whom is serving in the Navy.
