Serbia, Kosovo leaders back EU plan, top diplomat says

BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union’s top diplomat says the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo have given tacit approval to EU proposals to end months of political crises and help improve ties. Tensions have simmered between Serbia and its former territory since Kosovo unilaterally broke away in 2008. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said Monday that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti agree that the plan requires no further discussion. Borrell concedes though that “more work is needed” and that the two leaders will meet again next month to discuss how to put the proposals into action. Vucic said separately that he had hoped “to agree to some compromises, but Mr. Kurti was not ready for that.”
