Highway 1 reopens in both directions on Monday afternoon
BIG SUR, Calif. (KION-TV)- UPDATE ON DEC. 11 AT 11:27 AM: Caltrans District 5 announced on Monday morning that Highway 1 will reopen in both directions starting at 12 p.m.
Officials said that drivers should expect one-way reversing traffic control over the next several days.
Caltrans said there could be possible delays at Paul’s Slide from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for further cleanup.
UPDATE ON DEC. 11 AT 11:16 AM: Caltrans District 5 announced on Sunday morning that the Highway 1 closure has been shortened until Monday morning.
Highway 1 is now closed from south of Deetjen's Inn (PM 42.15) to the north to Ragged Point to the south. Caltrans did say the closure is in effect for crews to cleanup debris and rocks from the roadway.
Engineers are also looking at conditions at the Paul’s Slide area.

Caltrans warns drivers that Highway 1 is closed from Ragged Point to Palo Colorado on Saturday.
Caltrans cites expected heavy rainfall as the reason for the closure. This closes 65 miles of Highway 1 along the Big Sur coast.
Rain is forecasted to exceed the debris flow threshold for the Dolan and Colorado burn scars.
Caltrans will assess conditions Sunday morning to see if they can reopen the highway.
