Santa Cruz man dead after Highway 1 crash near Aromas identified

APTOS, Calif. (KION-TV): UPDATE Nov. 2, 2022, at 2:21 p.m.- California Highway Patrol has identified a man who was hit and killed on Highway 1 south of Freedom Boulevard Thursday.

Yosef Cohen, 28, of Santa Cruz, was walking within the traffic lanes of southbound Highway 1 when he was struck by a woman driving a Honda CRV, said CHP. Cohen died of his wounds at the scene.

This is still an ongoing investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY

CHP Santa Cruz said a male victim has died after getting hit by a silver Honda CRV on the Southbound Highway 1 and Freedom Boulevard onramp.

CHP said the crash occurred around 6:20 in the morning. The female driver of the CRV stayed on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Officers said no arrests have been made, and the investigation is still ongoing.

Caltrans closed the second lane on Southbound Highway 1 at Freedom Blvd. CHP did say that the on-ramp is open.
