Santa Cruz police investigating multiple gun incidents
Santa Cruz police are investigating a rash of recent gun violence in the city.
On Friday, the Police Department released a detailed recap of the gun-related crimes they are investigating. They include:
July 21, 2019 — Multiple gunshots in the 300 block of Barson Street. No victims were initially identified. July 31, 2019 – Shots fired at the Santa Cruz Metro located in the 900 block of Pacific Ave. Police recovered the gun believed to have been used in the shooting. One victim was located. The suspect remains outstanding. August 3, 2019 – A man is shot in the 700 block of Chestnut Street. He was taken to the hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Tuesday August 13, 2019 — Shots fired in the 800 block of Pacific Avenue. An adult male received a single gunshot wound. Police say the injury is non-life threatening.
In response to the uptick in gun violence, Santa Cruz police and other agencies have staged several gang suppression operations.
On August 12, detectives identified two persons of interest, and served warrants at locations in Santa Cruz and San Jose. Police say a firearm was recovered from each location. It has not yet been determined if the recovered firearms are associated to any of the shootings. On August 14, officers contacted a group drinking alcohol in the area of Liebrandt Ave. at Beach Street. Police arrested Cesar Corcoles, 19, for multiple weapons possession violations with a criminal street gang enhancement. Police also arrested a male juvenile for an outstanding felony warrant, probation violation, and possession of a loaded firearm.
