Cruz sworn into Salinas Fire Department as first therapy dog

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV)- Salinas Fire Department's newest firefighter is looking to help ease the minds of his coworkers.

Cruz is the first-ever therapy dog to be sworn into the fire department. He is tasked with helping to ease anxiety and physical and mental stress.

“So the role for Cruz is to help us as firefighters to reduce the impacts of PTSD, said Salinas Fire Captain its a huge step forward in terms of mental health for our organization and for Monterey County as a whole."

He will be stationed at Fire Station 4 with a designated captain.

Cruz comes from a non-profit in san Diego called "Next Steps Service Dogs." They train dogs to help both first responders and veterans.
