Law enforcement around the Central Coast hosting National Night Out
Around the Central Coast, law enforcement agencies will be hosting events for National Night Out on Aug. 6.
The event happens every year on the first Tuesday in August. According to the National Night Out website, the hope is that it will build relationships between neighbors and law enforcement while also building community.

Santa Cruz County
Scotts Valley: At Mac Dorsa Park from 5 to 8 p.m., there will be a community BBQ, station tours, games and contests. Santa Cruz: Police will be hosting an open house at the police headquarters on Center street from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be tours of the department, K-9 and motorcycle skills demonstrations and a crime scene investigation interactive activity. Watsonville : There will be several events around the city at locations that include the Muzzio Park and Community Center, the Watsonville City Plaza, Pajaro Valley Shelter Services and Portola Heights. Monterey County
Salinas: The Salinas Public Library will be visiting communities with its bookmobile throughout the day. Between 1 and 7 p.m., the bookmobile will go to the Tynan Village Apartments, Lauren Heights Park and Encounter Church. Seaside: Police will be hosting National Night Out at Seaside City Hall from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be live entertainment, a rock wall, petting zoo, a skate park and free hot dogs. Marina: Police will be hosting an event at the Marina Public Safety Building from 5 to 8 p.m. Monterey: Police conducted a survey and found that families were concerned that National Night Out fell on the night before the start of the school year, so instead of a National Night Out event, police hosted a Public Safety Night on Aug. 3. Prunedale : The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting an event at Prunetree Shopping Center from 5 to 9 p.m. Pacific Grove: From 5 to 7 p.m. at Caledonia Park, there will be free food, public safety demonstrations, document shredding, child ID kits, music and games. Carmel: National Night Out will be at the Carmel Police Department from 5 to 7:30 p.m. There will be free food, demonstrations, giveaways, fingerprinting and information about local services. Soledad: From 4 to 7 p.m., police will host an event at the YMCA on Walker Drive, and they hope to promote crime and drug prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are fighting back. Greenfield: National Night Out will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the gazebo at the Greenfield Village. There will be free hot dogs and water, a helicopter landing and a visit from the DA’s office comfort dog. Gonzales: From 5 to 8 p.m. at Central Park, police will be offering free food and prizes. King City: Police will be hosting an event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the King City Fire Station.
San Benito County
Hollister: Police will host an event starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building.
Santa Clara County
Gilroy police postponed its National Night Out celebration. Morgan Hill: From 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Depot Street, police are inviting the community to come out as they heal from the Ford Store and Gilroy Garlic Festival shootings.
