National Night Out to go as planned in the Central Coast

Annual National Night Out festivities will go on as planned on the Central Coast amid safety concerns following deadly attacks in Gilroy, Texas and Ohio.

The event pushes for a strong relationship between community and local law enforcement, but a recent string of mass shootings in the U.S. has some fearful about the event.

Watsonville for example has a string of block parties planned, however Watsonville resident Christian Solorzano, says it’s important to still go out and build that relationship with police.

It’s sad that we still have shootings in our country, but at the end of the day we have to stay strong,” says Solorzano. “We have to keep going, there’s no other way.”

Solorzano also says he knows the police care about the community in Watsonville because of their push to boost security during the recent Strawberry Festival.

Law enforcement will be at each National Night Out event not only to insure the safety of residents attending, but also to participate in activities alongside children who are likely to attend.
