Gilroy postpones “National Night Out”

The Gilroy Police Department posted Thursday that they are postponing the city’s 2019 National Night Out celebration, due to Sunday’s tragedy at the Gilroy Garlic Festival.

The event was scheduled for Tuesday, August 6 – a date Gilroy PD says is another nationally designated National Night Out day.

In a Facebook post, the department writes: “the Gilroy Police Department wishes to respect our community’s grieving process and encourages community dialog with the assistance of our local and county supportive services.”

“National Night Out” is a nationwide campaign promoting “police-community partnerships,” according to the National Night Out website. 421 California cities reportedly take part.
