Salinas police release identity of Chinatown shooting victim

Salinas police have released the identity of the victim of a shooting in Chinatown Thursday evening.

They identify him as 37-year-old Alfonso Nevarez.

Police said that at around 7:55 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting victim near Market Way and Soledad Street. They found Nevarez laying off the road on the south side of Market Way near the railroad tracks. Police said he had a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Nevarez was pronounced dead at the scene.
