Carmel police warn of caller ID spoofing to get credit, debit card information

Carmel police are warning people that banks reported a fraud trend targeted at credit and debit card holders.

Police said the criminals are using stolen card data and using caller ID spoofing to call victims pretending to be an employee of their bank.

They said the criminals tell the victims that their accounts have been compromised and that they need information like the PIN or CV2 security code to cancel their card.

Carmel police say if you get a call or text from your bank saying there has been fraud on your account, do not give the caller any information and hang up. They recommend that if it happens, you report it to your bank.

They said banks will not contact you to ask for your PIN or username and password, so you should not give that information to anyone.
