Domestic violence incident leads to pursuit, car crashes near Del Rey Oaks City Hall
Officers continue to investigate a domestic violence incident that led to a chase.
Monterey Police were responding to a domestic violence call to Lone Oak Lodge. When they arrived, the female victim and suspect 31-year-old Nicholas Hedstrom had left already.
The woman then called 911 claiming she did not feel safe, and had no idea where she was.
Officers pinged the phone in Seaside.
Seaside Police responded to the address given and when they contacted Hedstrom, they say he took off in a vehicle.
The chase led officers into Del Rey Oaks, where the man ultimately crashed into City Hall.
After the suspect flew down Carlton Road, he lost control and crashed into the planter boxes out front the city manager’s office.
“I was actually working on these valve boxes and left for 15-20 minutes down to the public works yard and I heard the sirens. I heard police come across 218, which caught my eye and then I heard the big ‘bang’ and rushed it here just to make sure my fellow workers were safe,” Public Works supervisor Ron Fucci said.
Several other city employees saw the crash from inside the building. No bystanders were injured.
Hedstrom was sent to the hospital and was arrested and charged Tuesday.
The victim in the incident, who police said was the suspect’s girlfriend, did have injuries, but will be okay.
