Seaside hosts second fireworks show after location controversy
One of the largest fireworks shows on the Central Coast came back for a second year, despite some controversy over the location.
The City of Seaside hosted the show at Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Course, and people came from all over the Central Coast to experience the fireworks.
“I found it on Facebook, someone had mentioned that they were going to be here, so we checked it out and decided this over Morgan Hill,” Salinas resident Jennifer Schiveley said.
Many in the community, young and old, were thrilled that the event has returned to Seaside.
But the event almost didn’t happen at the golf course, as the City of Seaside originally planned to move the event to Laguna Grande Park near city hall, but concerns from Monterey residents put a stop to the plans.
The city had to quickly move the event back to the golf course.
“To change venues in 25 days is quite the challenge,” said Seaside city councilman Dave Pacheco.
Pacheco contributed money from his own pocket to finance the show, money he says is well worth it.
“Whenever we can unite people,” he said, “It does good for the common goal of the Monterey Peninsula.”
Pacheco tells KION that the City of Seaside still has to do some evaluations of this year’s event to see if it will come back for a third year. He added though that the city has already budgeted the money for it.
