One dead, two injured after multivehicle crash at San Francisco International Airport

KION’s sister station in San Francisco reports that one person is dead and two others are seriously injured after a multivehicle crash at San Francisco International Airport’s international terminal Monday afternoon.

Police say the crash happened in the arrivals section of the lower level into the international terminal around 3:30 p.m. They say three pedestrians, two men and one woman, were involved in the crash.

The three pedestrians were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. KPIX in San Francisco reports that at 4:28 p.m. one of the men was pronounced dead.

Police say the crash did not appear to be intentional. Witnesses tell KPIX the pedestrians were loading suitcases into a car at the arrivals section when a Ford rear-ended the vehicle. Witnesses say the car spun out and hit all three pedestrians.

Investigators say the driver of the Ford remained on the scene, cooperated with police and did not appear impaired.

Traffic was diverted to the upper level, according to SFO’s official Twitter account. It suggested using alternate pickup or drop-off locations.

The incident is still under investigation.
