Scotts Valley Police: Leave the fireworks to the professionals
Scotts Valley Police Officers will be on the lookout for fireworks of any kind this Independence Day. Residents are not allowed to put on any type of fireworks display in the city.
“We don’t want to ruin everyone’s holiday, but we do want to make sure everyone is safe,” says Sgt. Wayne Bellville with the Scotts Valley Police Department.
Sgt Bellville says police will all be out on patrol for the 4th of July to hand out citations to anyone lighting up fireworks in celebration of Independence Day.
This includes pyrotechnics that are designated “safe and sane.”
Safety is the primary concern, especially of the surrounding environment. Sgt Bellville says many of the neighborhoods in Scotts Valley are surrounded by some form of brush or trees, which could easily be sparked by a stray piece of pyro.
“Any firework leads to the potential of creating a fire with the winter that we’ve had and the vegetation growth we’ve had,” says Sgt Bellville. “The chance of sparking a fire here with fireworks is definitely high.
Scotts Valley Police say leave it to the professionals: If you wish to see fireworks on display in Scotts Valley, you can check out the 4th of July celebration at Skypark.
The parade comes first at 3 p.m. July 4th. Fireworks are scheduled to go off around 9:15 p.m.
