Watsonville Fire Department inspects ‘safe and sane’ fireworks stands
Firefighters in Watsonville spent several hours inspecting fireworks booths around the city on Sunday.
The main things they are looking for is to make sure all booths have at least two fire extinguishers and have no fire hazards within 100ft. of the booth.
They’re also checking to make sure all fireworks being sold are ‘safe and sane’ and each booth has the proper permitting through the city.
The legal ones have a state marshal stamp of approval on each individual firework.
Generally the illegal fireworks are those that cause big explosions, or go off in the sky.
Each booth in the city is run by a club or non profit organization. Pajaro Valley girl’s softball is running the one at 444 Airport Boulevard. They say this is one of their biggest fundraisers of the year. “Last year we probably earned around $4000, so that’s great extra money for us and I can keep the fees lower for the girls,” said director Leila Salas.
Safe and sane fireworks go on sale Monday in Watsonville.
