UPDATE: 3 dead in Morgan Hill workplace shooting
UPDATED 6/26:
Investigators are still trying to piece together the motive for a deadly shooting in Morgan Hill Wednesday night. Morgan Hill Police say 60-year-old Steven Leet killed two people he worked with at the Morgan Hill Ford dealership and then himself just after he was fired.
Forensic teams spent Thursday morning combing the Ford building looking for clues to what compelled Steven Leet to start shooting.
According to police, Leet was talking to his supervisor Xavier Souto after being fired less than two hours before. In that meeting, Leet shot and killed Souto. Another supervisor, Brian Light tried to take Leet’s gun in what police called a heroic moment before his death.
“His actions allowed the other workers to flee after hearing the first shot,” Morgan Hill Police chief David Swing said.
Police believe Leet did not premeditate the double murder suicide, and the 60-year-old has no prior criminal record.
KION went to the suspects home in San Jose to find out more about the man behind the murder. Neighbors tell us, although he was strange, they never could have guessed he’d do this.
“I still can’t wrap my head around it. It’s cliche, but you just don’t know people and it’s the quiet ones,” Leet’s neighbor Sherri Lebaudour-Ewing said.
Sherri lived across the street from leet for 15 years and describes him as a recluse and a rather neurotic man.
A neighbor who knew Leet well told her Leet may have been having issues at work.
“He used to complain about his job a lot because he got bullied,” Lebaudour-Ewing said.
San Jose PD issued a search warrant last night. They found nothing that would show a motive, but did recover 10 guns from his home. He had two more at work. In the investigation, police learned he always carried a gun.
“We believe he had two more weapons either on his person or in his car at the Ford store.”
Wednesday, the Ford dealership was closed, their president said in a statement the company is devastated by this terrible loss.
Both victims are fathers.
UPDATE: The investigation continued Wednesday into a deadly workplace shooting at the Ford dealership in Morgan Hill. The Ford Store on Condit Road will remain closed until Thursday.
Three people, including the suspected gunman, died of gunshot wounds. Their names were not immediately released.
The shooting happened a little after 6 p.m. Tuesday. Law enforcement at the scene said the shooter may have been a former employee who was upset after being fired just minutes before the shooting.
One witness overheard a conversation between two managers who were fearful of someone who “would not leave the premises.”
Morgan Hill Police say they’ll have more information on the investigation Wednesday morning.
