Santa Cruz Police warning about July 4th safety measures

The Santa Cruz Police Department is reminding people to follow the rules during their July 4th celebrations.

The city will have a Safety Enhancement Zone where people will receive triple fines for breaking the rules. That will be in effect from midnight July 4th through 3:00 a.m. July 5th.

The Safety Enhancement Zone is citywide. It includes triple fines for violations which include fireworks possession, possession of open containers or consumption of alcoholic beverages in public places, graffiti, noise violations, trespassing, conduct on public property, and urinating/defecating in public.

Santa Cruz Police said there will be police and fire inspectors out patrolling in the days leading up to and on the Fourth of July.

Santa Cruz Police and the Fire Department also want to remind people that all fireworks including fireworks marked “safe and sane” are illegal in the city.

They’re asking people who see illegal fireworks being used to report them by calling the nonemergency line at (831) 471-1131.

You will need to identify the person(s) responsible in the complaint.
