Baby shot in the head after mother rejects man’s advances
A 10-month-old baby is recovering after she was shot in the head. Police said it happened after the baby’s mother rejected a man’s advances.
Fresno police said Marcos Echartea shot out a car window and hit Fayth Percy in the head at a family birthday party. Fayth’s mother was leaving the party to get away from the suspect when he found her. Since the shooting, the baby’s parents have been by her side hoping for a miraculous recovery.
“It should shock the conscience of every person in Fresno to know that we have a 10-month-old baby lying in the hospital fighting for her life,” said Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.
Investigators spent more than 12 hours questioning witnesses at the scene. They said Echartea did not look back after pulling the trigger.
“He had no remorse. He had just shot a 10-month-old baby and didn’t even seem to care or it didn’t phase him,” Dyer said.
Dyer said they found a gun, and it is undergoing ballistic testing to see if it was the one used in the shooting.
Police said they do not know if Echartea was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the shooting, but there was alcohol at the party.
Echartea is also being held in connection with a shooting last month.
