One person arrested after officer involved shooting in Gonzales

UPDATE 6/11/2019 12:00 p.m. One person was arrested in Gonzales after an officer involved shooting Monday evening.

The incident happened at around 8 p.m. The District Attorney’s Office says a Gonzales police officer deployed a taser at Ramon F. Curiel. They say Curiel then fired a handgun at the officer. The officer fired one round and hit him.

The DA says Curiel tried to leave the scene. He ran into another Gonzales officer who fired at Curiel and hit him.

Curiel got away and hid. Members of the Salinas police SWAT team found him three hours later. He was arrested and taken to Natividad Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The District Attorney’s Office says it will not release any more information until they decide whether Curiel will be charged.

In addition to Gonzales police and the SWAT team, Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies, the Salinas police Violence Suppression Unit, Soledad police, Greenfield police and the CHP responded to the incident.
