Large-scale illegal cannabis operation dismantled
An illegal, large-scale cannabis processing and distribution site near Summit Road was shut down after authorities discovered hundreds of cannabis plants and other contraband.
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office and Santa Cruz County Cannabis Licensing Office recovered 369 cannabis plants, 695 pounds of processed cannabis flower and 100 pounds of cannabis plant material meant for processing. The discovery came a search warrant issued for a property in the 1500 block of Summit Road was executed Tuesday. Authorities also discovered more than 11 pounds of concentrated cannabis wax, as well as scales, a commercial money counter and packaging material. They also recovered $126,469 was.
Authorities found evidence that the cannabis and other materials found at the site were being illegally sold across state lines.
Investigators plan to review bank records and other seized documents to determine how much money is owed to the County of Santa Cruz in tax liability.
No arrests were made. Those involved in the operation are being referred to the district attorney’s office for prosecution.
