Cass Street in Monterey back open after water main break forced closure

Cass Street is back open in Monterey following a water main break incident that forced the closure of the street Wednesday night.

The closure lasted for hours on Cass Street between Carmelito Avenue and Munras Avenue, extending from the afternoon well into late Wednesday evening.

The break itself also forced water services to be shut down to a number of nearby businesses, including the Sunrise of Monterey senior living center.

While the water was shut off, staff at the senior living center grabbed bottled water and provided it for residents at the senior center.

Water services have since been restored and Cass Street has been re-opened for pedestrians and vehicle traffic.

A water main break has shut down Cass Street in Monterey between Carmelito Avenue and Munras Avenue, Wednesday.

Water is no longer spilling out, but it is still turned off for customers in the area.

Cal Am tells KION, as of 7:55 p.m., that there are “about 50″ customers affected between the 900 and 1100 blocks of Cass Street. It was an 8” cast iron main. Cal Am says they expect repairs to be finished before Thursday.

KION was told on scene that one of the buildings with no water is a senior living home.
