Shooting threat at Hartnell College turns out to be a prank
Reports of a person with a gun at Hartnell College in Salinas have turned out to be a prank, according to police.
They went to the school Wednesday at around 11 a.m. when dispatch got multiple text messages from the same phone number saying there was a person with a gun in the Student Center who was going to shoot.
Multiple officers responded, but there was no one with a gun.
Police say they strongly discourage these pranks because they have to take it seriously and send a large police response, taking officers away from real calls.
