Body cam video shows teen charging at officer with a knife before police shooting
Body cam video released in Oxnard shows the moments leading up to an officer-involved shooting that left a teen in critical, but stable condition.
The incident happened on May 3 when officers responded to multiple calls from a female reporting a woman with a knife. When they arrived at the scene, they found a teenage girl with a large kitchen knife.
In the video, the girl appears distraught and has a large knife. She taunts the officer while he tries to calm her down, but then she charges at him.
The officer shot her three times before giving first aid with backup officers until paramedics arrived.
In those moments, the girl says “I’m sorry” to the officer. In a release, Oxnard Police say the calls that came into the dispatch center about the incident were made from a phone the teen had with her. Detectives say evidence shows that she intended to be shot by an officer.
