California legal pot market not reaching intended goal

A computer system designed to watch California’s legal marijuana market is allegedly not reaching its intended goal.

Legal sales started 16 months ago, but only a few hundred operators are entering data into the California Cannabis Track-and-Trace system, even though there are thousands of licensed companies.

State officials say it is because there has not been enough time to get licensees trained to use the computer system. Critics say the lack of a uniform system could spell trouble.

The system is in place to keep illegal pot from getting into the legal market and to make sure legal operators do not get into the black market.

Right now, most companies are documenting their business on paper invoices and manifests.
