Sharks are making their way back to the Central Coast

The great whites are back!

Several sharks have been spotted along the coast near Manresa State Beach.

The whites we are seeing now are juvenile and are primarily vegetarian at this age. While drone shots make these creature easy to see, most never them.

Shark expert, Sean Van Sommeran says, “They have the sensory apparatus you know, to detect you. If the water clears up you’ll see them. The good news is usually if you see them, they are not stalking you per say.”

While the big fish often remains unseen, they are still there. The warmer weather and ocean currents create the perfect hang-out spot for these sharks this time of the year.

Sommeran says despite the numbers of sharks we continue to see, you are still unlikely to be bit. Just be respectful.

Sharks will continue to increase in numbers as we head into summer.
