Highway 17 high-speed chase ends in PIT maneuver

A Scotts Valley woman is behind bars after leading CHP on a high-speed chase.

It started on Highway 1 near Soquel Drive Wednesday evening. CHP tried to stop a car for a cell phone violation, but the driver took off and CHP pursued the car.

The chase continued onto Highway 17 where the driver hit another car near Pasatiempo Drive and kept going.

CHP eventually used a PIT maneuver to stop the car near Vine Hill Road when the driver tried to turn around and go the wrong way on the highway.

The maneuver was successful, and CHP arrested Maggie Rochelle Simmons of Scotts Valley for felony evading, hit and run, driving on a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia.
