Man pleads guilty to using SnapChat to lure teens
UPDATE: 4/16/2019 2:51 p.m. A Fresno County man pleaded guilty to engaging in lewd acts with a child, oral copulation of a minor and digital penetration of a minor under the age of 14 in Monterey.
Robert Gomez, 27, was caught when a Monterey girl reported him to a counselor, and he admitted to the claims, but said he used social media to find several other minors around California and traveled to meet them.
In summer 2018, Gomez was 26 and met a 12-year-old girl through SnapChat. He told her he was 15-years-old.
Gomez and the girl started sending each other lewd photos at Gomez’s suggestion, and twice in August of 2018 he drove to Monterey to meet with her.
During their meetings, Gomez and the victim engaged in several acts in his car, including kissing, groping, oral copulation and digital penetration. Gomez asked for sex multiple times, but she declined.
In October 2018, she reported Gomez to a counselor who then contacted police. After an investigation, Monterey Police were able to identify and find Gomez, who admitted to what she said happened in an interview.
His sentencing is scheduled for June 4. He agreed to a stipulated 10 years in prison, but he will also have to register as a sex offender for life.
