Salinas police arrest 2nd suspect in 2017 homicide

A second suspect is behind bars in connection with a 2017 homicide in Salinas.

According to police, Luis Atayde, 19, was involved in the slaying of John Rodzach, 39.

On Feb. 11, Rodzach was shot and killed near North Hebbron Avenue and Fremont Street. At the time, officers had no leads.

Detectives later determined Kris Purcell, 20 was one of the suspects.

Purcell was arrested and charged for the crime in October 2018.

On Tuesday, Atayde was also charged with murder and booked into the Monterey County Jail.

“This investigation is ongoing, and detectives would like to hear from anyone with information,” the Salinas Police Department said in a written statement.

The Investigation Bureau is asking anyone with information on the shooting to call Detective Byron Gansen at 831-758 7137.
