CHP: Driver suspected of DUI in deadly crash in Santa Cruz Mountains

A Los Gatos man died after crashing his car in the Santa Cruz Mountains over the weekend. Authorities believe the driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

The crash happened around 10:20 p.m. Saturday on Soquel San Jose Road at Old Turnpike Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of a 2007 BMW lost control, overturned and struck a tree. Both the 45-year-old driver and his 42-year-old passenger suffered major injuries and were taken to Valley Medical Center in San Jose.

The driver later died from his injuries.

The crash is under investigation.
