Hollister Police warn of phone scam

Hollister Police have issued a warning about a phone scam that several people have reported.

They say scammers called them saying they had an arrest warrant and the person needs to pay a fine. That’s when scammers ask them to buy gift cards, wire cash or buy Google play cards.

Once everything’s been bought, the caller requests the PIN from the cards in order to “clear” the warrant.

The caller ID shows the Hollister Police Department phone number or the Social Security Administration phone number, but police say they would not call demanding money.

If you get one of these calls or have sent money and would like to report it, call 831-636-4331.
