Sheriff’s office identifies man found dead near Salmon Creek

UPDATE 3/19/2019 1:30 p.m. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of a man found dead in Big Sur near Salmon Creek.

He’s identified as 62-year-old David Johannsen from Torrance.

The Sheriff’s Office has not released Torrence’s cause of death. His body was found by a passerby Saturday night and recovered Sunday morning.

PREVIOUS STORY: One man was found dead in the Big Sur area Saturday.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office says a call came at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night about a body found and a Search and rescue crew was sent out to the area around Salmon Creek.

At around 1:30 Sunday morning, the body of a man was recovered on land.

The Sheriff’s Office says the circumstances are still unknown at this point.

The incident is under investigation.
