Fifteen-year-old suspect arrested for Watsonville Sudden Street shooting murder
WATSONVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV) - UPDATE September 8, 2022, at 8:57 p.m.- Watsonville Police said they arrested a 15-year-old suspect for allegedly killing a 19-year-old on Sudden Street Saturday.
The juvenile suspect was arrested by police Thursday at Waters Alley, between Jefferson and Sudden Streets. That was less than a block away from the murder scene, said police.
As police tried to arrest him, the suspect tossed a gun. The juvenile was arrested and booked into Santa Cruz Juvenile Hall.
Police said the minor had ties to a local gang and is facing several charges, including murder, possession of a firearm, gang enhancements, and probation violation.
KION is awaiting an answer if the suspect will be tried as an adult.

UPDATE September 7, 2022, at 9:52 a.m.- The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office has identified the 19-year-old killed in Watsonville Sunday.
Adrian Ayala of Watsonville was shot and killed in a parking lot on Sudden Street at 11 in the morning, according to Santa Cruz County Coroner's Office.

Watsonville PD confirmed to KION that a 19-year-old man died in a Sunday morning shooting on Sudden Street.
Officers responded to the scene around 11:16 a.m., they located the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Officers began performing lifesaving measures, but the victim died at the scene. This is Watsonville's second homicide this year.
Watsonville PD does not have any information regarding the suspect at this time. Residents are asked to avoid the area as it is still an active investigation.
