DUI suspect arrested in Marina following multicounty police pursuit

A DUI suspect was arrested following a multicounty police pursuit.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the chase began in Capitola Tuesday around 10:30 a.m.

The suspected driver was identified as 61-year-old Anne Figen, of Monterey.

CHP Santa Cruz followed Figen south on Highway 1 and entered Monterey County.

Officer Sam Courtney said they attempted to stop Figen’s car with a spike strip but were unsuccessful.

A second spike strip was successful near Del Monte Blvd.

Figen tried to turn around in the median of Highway 1, north of Reservation Road in Marina, but her van got stuck.

CHP said Figen resisted arrest and continued to drink in her car. Officers had to smash a window open to take her into custody.

The incident caused major traffic delays.
