Highway 1 at Mud Creek reopened following repairs to major roadway cracks
UPDATE: 3/8/2019 3:04 p.m. A portion of Highway 1 was reopened following major cracks to the roadway earlier this week.
Caltrans said the cracks formed at Mud Creek in Big Sur and moved three to five feet since last Thursday. Officials said the movement has slowed down. Crews were busy clearing slide material, repairing and paving the roadway so cars could drive across the highway again.
Mud Creek was reopened by 3:30 p.m. Friday.
Crews cleared perched boulders at Paul’s Slide and expect to have the road open by 5 p.m. Thursday, March 7.
