Patrol car sideswiped on Highway 101 near Gilroy

A close call for a Gilroy-Hollister CHP officer was caught on camera.

The incident happened Tuesday morning on Highway 101, just north of Gilroy.

The officer had his patrol car positioned to protect a motorist who was changing a flat tire in the center divide. A car traveling in the fast lane sideswiped the patrol car.

No one was hurt but the California Highway Patrol wants to remind drivers to slow down or move over when emergency lights are on.

“It’s the law, but more importantly, it could save a life!” said CHP.
