MoCo Sheriff’s Office: Scottish man fakes disappearance at Monastery Beach

UPDATED 3/5/19 2 p.m. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said the missing Scottish man they’ve been looking for faked his disappearance.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office says the tourist, Kim Gordon, is facing 24 rape counts back home. He still hasn’t been found.

Two days were spent searching for Gordon who was visiting from Scotland with his 17-year-old son Monday.

According to his son, Gordon said he wanted to go for a swim at Monastery Beach around 7 p.m. and went missing.

For 20 hours crews scoured the waters looking for Kim Gordon.

“The son didn’t actually see his father go in the water,” said Michael Dalington, Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team Supervisor back on Wednesday when a search was going on, “We don’t have a witness that saw him go in so it’s kinda like a needle in a haystack.”

Deputies got suspicious though after they interviewed Gordon’s son two times, getting different stories as to how the pair got to Monterey County.

“The story we were given by the son can’t answer those questions and that’s where it all starts to fall apart,” said Captain John Thornburg with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, “That’s what lead to where we are today and why we think what we think.”

They then found out about the 24 counts of rape against Gordon:

1. Breach of the peace

2. Rape

3. Assault

4. Assault

5. Attempted rape

6. Lewd and libidinous behaviour

7. Indecent behaviour towards a girl aged between 12 and 16

8. Sexual assault on a young child

9. Sexual assault and sexual assault by penetration

10. Rape

11. Rape

12. Threatening and abusive behaviour

13. Sexual assault on a young child

14. Sexual assault

15. Sexual assault by penetration

16. Coercing a person into being present during sexual activity and communicating indecently

17. Breach of the peace

18. Rape

19. Breach of the peace

20. Malicious damage

21. Threatening and abusive behaviour

22. Assault

23. Assault

24. Rape

“We have no idea when Scottish authorities started working on the case,” Thornburg said, “It could have been a month ago, a week ago, a day ago and they hadn’t gotten to the part where they could prevent someone from leaving [the country] or had enough to arrest him.”

Gordon’s son is back in Scotland but could face charges for filing a false report.

Now the sheriff’s office and U.S. Marshals are looking for his father and asking for your help.

Gordon is supposed to be in court in Scotland on March 11. If he shows up he’ll be arrested.

If you see him, call 911.

PREVIOUS STORY: The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said the missing Scottish man they’ve been looking for faked his disappearance.

Kim Gordon was reported missing on Feb. 25 while visiting Monastery Beach with his son. Gordon’s son called 911 and said his dad went for a swim and didn’t return to shore.

The sheriff’s office devoted 24 searches over two days but never found Gordon.

Investigators discovered that Gordon wanted to avoid several rape charges in his homeland. Authorities said Gordon’s whereabouts are unknown at this time.
