Fire sparks at large homeless encampment in Santa Cruz
A fire ignited at a large homeless encampment in Santa Cruz.
Santa Cruz Fire told KION a tent went up in flames at the “Ross” homeless encampment off River Street around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Crews were able to quickly put out the flames.
Officials said someone was cooking on a griddle inside the tent when it caught fire. The person was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries to the hands and smoke inhalation.
