Salinas Firefighters: Three fires in three days

Salinas firefighters have had little time to rest between calls.

According to the Salinas City Firefighters Association, firefighters have responded to three fires in as many days.

The first fire was reported early Sunday morning at a warehouse on Industrial Street, just off Sanborn Road. Close to 20 cars stored in the building were destroyed.

“The building was leased to an individual that had several classic cars, or project cars. A lot of parts, a lot of tires, a lot of cars, in various states of repair and disrepair,” said Salinas Fire Chief Sam Klemek.

Sunday’s multi-unit fire was followed Monday morning by a second 2-alarm fire on North Pearl Street.

A triplex caught fire but crews had it under control within 20 minutes.

Thirteen people living on the property were displaced.

Officials told KION the building didn’t have smoke detectors. They said faulty wires was the cause of the fire on Pearl Street.

Details on the third fire were not immediately available.

The cause of the fires is under investigation.
