Attempted theft of “dangerous dogs” in Hollister
The Hollister Police Department says that two people tried to break in to the Hollister Animal Shelter and steal dogs, early Thursday morning.
At 3:53 a.m., February 21, officers found the shelter’s gate forced open and a lock was broken. In a release, the Department writes that “video footage” shows two men “tampering with the gate and proceeding to the back of the shelter.” The men also reportedly tried to enter “specific kennels where dangerous dogs are housed.”
The suspects were unsuccessful and fled before responding officers arrived. Surveillance shows the suspects in hooded sweatshirts. Their faces are largely not visible. One man was wearing camouflage pants.
The Hollister Police Department is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the “identification and conviction” of the suspects.
